Lucy Walker is on a mission to raise money to cure her little brother.
Lucy is a student at Havering College and is studying her Level 3 in Media. She is desperate to send her brother, Nathan, across the Atlantic to Texas where he can receive the best possible treatment for his illness. Nathan who is 7, suffers from Hypothalamic Hamartoma, a rare disease where tumour-like malformations occur during foetal development. Because of these tumours, Nathan can suffer up to 25 epileptic seizures every day. In addition, he has recently been diagnosed with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) all of which are all linked to his condition.
His family have been fighting an ongoing battle for his treatment but with limited results. Although there is a good chance of Nathan being cured, there is currently no NHS funding. The only option therefore is to travel to Texas for treatment.
As you can imagine, this has been a very stressful journey for both Nathan and his family. However, they refuse to give up and are trying to raise the money themselves for Nathan’s treatment.
