The Certificate in Knowledge of Policing (CKP) is a new Level 3 qualification designed by Skills for Justice, the Sector Skills Council for the Police and the College of Policing, as a pre-join option for the position of Constable.
From April 2013, all applicants wishing to join the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) as a regular police constable will be required to hold the CKP as delivered through a College of Policing approved provider. It is expected that over the forthcoming months other forces will make similar announcements.
Havering College is an Approved Provider. Our Trainers and Assessors are ex- and serving police officers, who between them have decades of operational policing experience. They are qualified and experienced police trainers, police recruit assessors, NVQ assessors and internal verifiers. Our course meets the standards required by the National College of Policing.
Delivered by qualified police trainers, learning will cover essential knowledge and practice from providing an initial response, initial support to victims and witnesses, interviewing and search techniques through to arrest. The course will also include advice on the preparation for the police selection process, including advice on the health and fitness test.
Unlike courses offered elsewhwere, we do not just deliver the basic theory. Our course is a couple of days longer than most and delivered through a blended approach which comprises taught sessions, discussion, role play, staged scenarios, guest speakers and self-directed study - all designed to reinforce the learning process through linking it to real police practice. You will also benefit from access to approved, specialised online learning resources available on the College of Policing web-based learning environment (NCALT).
